“Globe”, from the Swarovski Crystal Palace collection, sets Viktor & Rolf Spring/Summer 2010 show aglow
The huge “Globe” from the Swarovski Crystal Palace collection rotated on one side of the stage, while singer Roisin Murphy stood on a giant speaker on the other side. Originally, the massive globe was designed by Studio Job for the Swarovski Crystal Palace Show during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2008 in Milan. The spinning globe is 175 cm in diameter and about 500,000 CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements have been applied to its surface. “Maybe it’s the sense of time and gravity that touches us, maybe it is the earth that keeps turning and turning. I think it also makes reference to the global crisis and how everyone across the world is suffering because of it,” says Job Smeets. “The globe is all we really have and all the problems are hidden within it. It’s everything.”
