A superlative sparkling appearance: Swarovski at the 2009 Academy Awards Ceremony

More than 87,000 STRASS® Swarovski® crystals were joined into 6,000 different one-metre-long Crystal Strands, which were arranged to form an enormous stage installation of roughly 18 metres high and 30 metres wide – with a total weight of approximately 3 tonnes.

The sparkling scene at the Academy Awards Ceremony, which was held on 23 February 2009, outshone even the crystal installation of 2007. This, once more, goes to prove the versatile dimensions to which Swarovski crystal in general, and Crystal Strands in particular, can be applied, even if only for a single night.

The Crystal Curtain was designed exclusively for the 2009 Academy Awards. Swarovski was responsible for both the design and the installation, in collaboration with the Rockwell Group, Los Angeles.
