Diamond Table

Crystalline forms of signs and perceptions. For the theoretician of signs Umberto Eco the world is a system of signs.

The semiotician and author of famous books such as "The Name of the Rose" holds the view that the living areas of people in their time always also create sign systems with special codes. We produce for ourselves our own worlds with their own laws. The design of Diamond Table is also sign-like according to its designer Patricia Urquiola " because familiar styles and perceptions are at least questioned. Here the design is also a game with "colours, forms and ergonomics". The legs as well as the tabletop have an unusual form. They can stand in a room like sculptures. One form of the table legs turned in upon itself is vaguely reminiscent of the cut of a diamond. Crystalline forms seem to dissolve space and reflect in it. The background to the design of the diamond tables by Patricia Urquiola is a multifunctional concept "the tables can and should be arranged and used in many variations. The aim was also to create a piece of furniture with "identity". In addition to a high measure of functionality they also imply the possibility of a "filtered" perception. Overall the series consists of square and rectangular shaped tables with a thin glass or wooden tabletop. The body of the table is available in black, in anodised aluminium or shiny aluminium with the wood available as natural oak, grey oak and wengé. This is also an aspect of the concept: the elements enter into a specific form of communication and thereby form a system of signs for a new perception.
