Herbert Hinteregger: Crystal Cube and Crystal Room
Art meets word play with famous ballpoint pen.
Crystal Cube
The inner surfaces of a glass cube (80cm x 80cm x 80cm) are decked out with "bic Crystal" ballpoint pens which the artist attached with transparent adhesive tape. The artist Herbert Hinteregger calls his artwork from 2005 "Crystal Cube" and thereby makes two references to crystal: the sobriquet of the product and the purest geometrical form which is frequently linked with crystal. "Crystal Cube" followed "Crystal Room", that was shown in SchleifmĂĽhlgasse in Vienna. A street-front premises surprised passers-by in May 2005: the whole room was decked out with "bic Crystal" ballpoint pens which the artist had attached with transparent adhesive tape.
